"The direct line of descent of the Collins family probably begins withJ ames Collins, Sr. and his wife Betsy (Elizabeth, I'm imagine), butlitt le is known of them other than that he died sometime prior to 9October 1 793 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, he was a landowner, and, accordi ng to one website, they had two known sons, James Jr.,and Issac. But i n 1788, according to Alton Blevins, James Collins,Sr. deeded land to J acob Collins, Abraham Collins, and AlexanderMcIntire, his son-in-law, a nd his wife "Bithya" (Betsy)m andIsaac..Alton believes that James, Sr. " was surely the progenitor of,at least most, of the Lincoln County Coll ins clan." I have not beenable to substantiate this, but from the reco rds it is obvious thatthe Collins of Lincoln County were closely relat ed."
