Passing of Coles County Pioneer
Mr. Dunlap McGahey died in this city Wednesday night at 9 o'clock,Age d 74 years.
Mr. McGahey had been a resident of Coles County for many years,moving t o Oakland from Morgan Township several years ago, havingretired from f arm life. He was esteemed as one of our best citizensand will be unive rsally mourned by our people.
He had been suffering from rheumatism and other infirmities of agefor t he past two years and during the past winter had not been ableto be ab out the city much.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made with the exception of theb urial place which will be Greasy Point Cemetery.
Born near Palestine, Illinois May 17, 1845. He came to Douglas Countyw hen a boy.
Deceased was united in marriage May 16, 1871 to Clara Bell McAlistero f Rardin, Illinois who survives him together with the followingchildre n. Mrs. Sadie Wyeth, Hindsboro, Illinois, Osmond (Oscie),Claude, and M argaret, Oakland, Emmet, Hampton Roads, U.S. Army.
In the passing of Mr. McGahey the family mourns the passing of a kindh usband and father and the community loses a model citizen.
