Judging from old court records of Knox County, the Court was notsatisf ied with the management of the estate of Charles Stewart byMartin Mill er, Susannah’s new husband. On "May 5, 1811, [a]napplication of Ambros e Arthur, one of the administrators of CharlesStewart decd., the Court h as thought proper to release him from theburden of administration, and h ave ordered Joseph Eve and RichardBallinger to settle with the said Ar thur any money on hand oraccounts that in his possession, and report t he same especially tonext court as well as to return all monies on han d or account asshall be delivered to them and ordered that a subpoena d o be issuedagainst Martin Miller and Susannah Miller, late Susannah St ewart toshow cause, if any, why the estate of Charles Stewart, decd., s hallnot be taken out of their hands and she removed from being administratrix.” On the following day, the Court (May 6, 1811) “[o]rderedthat T homas Arthur, Jr., be appointed administrator of CharlesStewart, decd. , and he together with James Bailey and Arthur Nailacknowledge their b ond in the penalty of $1000."
