"John Lawson (Lauson)Arthur was born in craven County, NC to James andS arah (unk) Arthur and signed marriage bond for marriage to CeliaJarrel l 20 Dec 1783. James Arthur was the son of John and BrigetArthur who c ame to Craven County ca. 1735 possibly from Maryland; as,his will dtd. 0 7Jan1751 (Craven, NC) mentions an elder son JohnArthur living in Maryl and whom he had already provided for. Have notbeen successful thus far i n getting any further back.
Children of John/Briget were John, James, Matthew,Ann, Mary andWilliam a ccording to the will.
The children of James/Sarah Arthur were John Lawson m. Celia Jarrell,J ohn m.Elizabeth Gaskins, Eliza m. John Miller, William m. Ann King,Nan cy m. Hugh Hughes, Elizabeth m. Levi Burch, and Joseph m.Elizabeth Roe . James d. Oct 1789."
(it is doubtful James and Sarah had two sons named John and it isdoubt ful both Johns listed were one and the same with conflictingmarriage d ates with wives...Jarrell in 1783, Gaskins in 1782.)
And another:
"Although my line runs from John Arthur/Briget, James Arthur/Sarah,Joh n Arthur/Elizabeth Gaskins, Michael Arthur/Sidney Gatlin, GilbertGatli n Arthur/Sarah Theresa Tuten, William Roberson Arthur/NancyPauline Art hur, William Rudolph Arthur/Eura Mae French, I am alwayslooking for co llateral kinsmen."
Did James and Sarah really have two sons named John?
