Notes for Smith Terrill WALKER


He served during the Civil War in Company H, 6th Indiana Cavalry.

1880 Wichita, Sedgwick Co, KS. At census time laborer Smith Walkerwa s 32 years old, wife Rachel, 30. Their children were Sylvester,12; Ge orge, 11; Cora, 7; Joseph, 4; and Mary E, 10m.

The murder of Smith Walker by his son "Kid" Walker, which occurred att he farm home east of Jefferson in this county on Sunday afternoon,as b est we can learn was the outgrowth of a family row which drew outof th e marriage of a daughter against the protests of the father.

After the marriage the girl sought to return home and the fatherobject ed.

"Kid" Walker and his mother took the girl's part, and in the warmwords w hich followed Walker slapped his wife in the face, whereuponhis son dr ew a revolver and shot him twice, from the effects of whichthe father d ied in about an hour.

The son was arrested and lodged in jail. Mackey & Simons of Pond Creekw ere retained as his attorney when the case come up for hearing.
