Notes for Alfred HOSMAN


The History of Greene County, Missouri says:

"ALFRED HOSMAN. Mr. Hosman was born in Loudoun county, Virginia,August 2 , 1810. His parents moved to Fayette county, Kentucky, whenAlfred was a bout eight years of age. They soon after moved to Scottcounty, Kentuck y, where his father, Esaias Hosman, died in 1831. Hismother died in 18 48. Alfred was the youngest child and was educatedin the home schools o f Fayette and Scott counties. He was married inScott county, Decomber 2 3, 1830, to Miss Martha H. Cox, who diedAugust 9, 1839. They were bles t with four children, one son and threedaughters, viz., Sarah A., born J anuary 1, 1881; Nancy B., bornNovember 26, 1834; James W., born Decemb er 6, 1836, and Martha H.,born June 24, 1839. Mr. Hosman came to Misso uri in 1841, where bemarried the second time to Miss Mary O. Boone, of B oone township,Greene county, Missouri. She was the ninth daughter of N athan Boone,the youngest child of the famous Daniel Boone. This marria ge wasblest with thirteen children, viz.: Mary F., born July 22, 1842; Olive A., born February 9, 1844; Daniel B., born February 12, 1846, andd ied February 22, 1852; Nathan B., born April 16, 1847, and diedJanuary 8 , 1848; Mahala P., born November 25, 1848, and died June 16,1852; Char les L., born, November 10, 1850; Sanford E., born May 8,1863; John B., b orn May 5, 1866; Thomas A., born June 4, 1857; LutherA., born, August 3 1, 1869, and died, September 25, 1859; Joseph K.,born September 22, 18 60, and Robert L. and Belle P., born June 3,1866. Shortly after his se cond marriage, Mr. Hosman moved back toKentucky and lived upon the old h omestead, and remained there tillthe death of his mother, when he came b ack to Greene county,Missouri, and lived upon his farm till 1863, when t he unsettledcondition of the country during the civil war caused him t o removehis family to Howard county in September of that year. In Marc h,1864, he moved to Illinois, and lived near Bloomington until December, 1866, when he come back to Missouri, and lived in Springfield aboutt wo years, and then moved to where he now lives in Boone township. Heca rries on farming upon a large scale, and is one of the firstcitizens o f the county. He is probably one of the oldest mastermasons in the cou nty. He was made a member of Benevolent Lodge, No.58, in Fayette count y, Kentucky in 1848. Mr. Hosman has served asschool director for many y ears, and has been a leading member of theBaptist Church since 1850."
