4/21/1930 Jackson, Lyon Co, KS. He was recorded in the census asJohn C Daily, 36, born KS, his parents in Germany & KS. He marriedfor the first time at age 29 to Esther M, 26, who was 19, her firstmarriage as well. In their family were Thelma L, 6, Maxiene E, 2y 5m,and Verl L, 5m, all born in KS as were their parents. John was ageneral farmer, rented the home and had a radio. Next door was his 72year old widowed mother, Melissa J Daily.
5/9/1940 Same place. The family lived in the same house in 1935.Listed in the census were John C Dailey, 46, Esther M, 36, Thelma L,16, Maxine E, 12, and Verl L, 10. John had completed 8 years ofschool, Esther completed 3 years of high school, Thelma 1 year of highschool. John was still farming and renting the home for $7/mo. UncleArthur Dailey lived down the road. His mother was still in the samecounty but not next door as in the previous census.
He was named for Uncle John Crawford Van Gundy.
JOHN DAILEY DIES
John C. Dailey, 325 East St, a retired farmer who was a lifetimeresident of Lyon County, died Thursday afternoon in Newman MemorialCounty Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 P.M. in theRoberts-Blue-Barnett Chapel and burial will be in the Chicago MoundCemetery. Karl Gustafson of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesseswill officiate.
John Dailey was born Oct. 10, 1893, in th Junction neighborhoodsoutheast of Emporia, the son of Henry and Jane Van Gundy Dailey. Hemarried Esther M. Gordon, Dec, 6, 1922, in Emporia. Mr. Dailey was aveteran of World War I and a member of Ball McColm Post 5, AmericanLegion.
Mr. Dailey is survived by his wife, one son, Verl L. Dailey,Garland, Texas; two daughters, Thelma L. Crawford, 118 SouthWashington St, and Maxine McKinnis, Hazelwood, Mo; one brother FrankDailey, Meadows Nursing Home; one sister Bertha Dailey, 325 East St,;and six grandchildren, Kris Hall, Pittsburgh, Pa. Lieut. Kendall A.McKinnis, Enid, Okla., John R. Crawford, 821 Whildin St, John ADailey, Nacogdoches, Texas, and Wayne and Mark Dailey of Garland. Hewas preceded in death by four sister, Eunice Sedgwick, Amind Foster,Hester Goff, and Mattie Gentner; three brothers, Arthur, Joseph andCharles Dailey, and one grandson James D. Loomis.
