Josephand Aaron were b orn in OH, Manda and John in IL, the rest of thechildren in KS. Josep h was a farmer with property was valued at$600/300. There were seve ral other Powells in that same township.
6/9/1880 Richland Twp, Crowley Co, KS. That census taker found alarg e family there headed by Joseph E Powell, 42. Listed was anunusally r earranged family consisting of wife Sallie, 33, born NC;sons by Amanda : Edward, 14, and RF, 12; children by Sallie: Jacob M,6, William W, 4, G eorge, 2, Frank, 3mo, and again children by Amanda:son JP, 21, and dau ghter DE, 19, all born in KS. Joseph was disabledbut still listed as a f armer, Edward was in farming, JP was a farmhand. They were the only P owells in the county.
6/11/1900 Sillwater, Payne Co, OK. According to that census, JosephE P owell, 62, had been married 29 years to Sallie, 52, who hadbirthed 9 c hildren but one was deceased. . Children in the housewere William W, 2 3, Frank, 20, Rose, 17, May B, 14, Florence O, 12,and Nettie A, 8. J oseph and the 2 boys were farmers, Joseph ownedthe home but with a mor tgage.
4/30/1910 Same place. That year at census time, Joseph E Powell was7 2 years old, Sallie was going by Sarah and was 62, eight of her ninech ildren were still living. Also in the family were widowed sonMarion, 3 6, and his sons Alfred, 8, and Troy, 4. Under occupationfor Joseph w as "disabled soldier" who owned the home free ofmortgage. Marion was a c ity drayman.
1920 Still there, Ward 3. Joseph E Powell was an 87 years oldwidower b y the next census, still living with him were son Marion,45, and grand son Troy, 13. Joseph had retired from farming, Marionworked as a self- employed laborer.
4/8/1930 89th Ave, Stillwater. Widower Joseph E Powell was 92 yearso ld at census time, the only one living with him was his unemployedand d ivorced grandson Troy, Powell, 23. Joseph owned the home whichwas val ued at $2000 and no radio was listed there. Son William livedin the s ame city as well as other grandchildren.
Besides Joseph's descendants, also buried in that cemetery is Kiser TP owell, 1836-1901. Was he related?
