5/1930 Same place. The census taker found George W Swank, 45, with al arge family that year. He had married at age 25, Nellie, 38,married a t 18. Their family of daughters consisted of Myrtle J, 18,Florece V, 1 7, Mary J, 13, Doris M, 10, Dora M, 10 (uncounted twin inlast census o r same person?), Adaline A, 8, Betty J, 5, Sue Anne, 3,and Patsy J, 2 m o. Also counted there was father-in-law, Joseph EPowell, 65, and boar der, Arthur E Pollet, 19, rig builder in the oilfields. George's occup ation wa night watchman at the cement plant.Their housing is confusin g as the home had a value of $1000indicating ownership but then record ed as renting.
4/5/1940 1109 Front St, Dewey. According to that census, George WSwa nk, 55, had only gone to the 4th grade in school; wife Nellie M,48, fi nished the 8th. It seems Florence V, 27, was the most educatedwith 7 & 4 ( elementary and high school); Betty Jean, 15, alsofinished the 8th whil e Sue Ann, 13, was in 5th; Patsy Joyce, 10, 2ndgrade. George still wor ked at the cement company but now as agasoline station attendant. Flo rence was a seamstress, working fromthe house.
