CHURCHES.---Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church was first organized as ac lass in about 1818, and first met at Robinson Chilcote's house. In1819 , April 17, they obtained a deed for two acres of land fromPhilip Mill er, upon which they built a hewed log church, which stooduntil 1838. T he first trustees were James Chilcote, Joseph Claypool,James Porter, R obinson Chilcote. Nathan Chilcote, Nicholas Rible andJohn Shaw. In 183 6 they bought one-fourth of an acre more from JoshuaPlummer, and in 18 38 supplanted the hewed log church by a brick housenear the site of th e old church....
When the brick was built in 1838, under the pastorate of Rev. M.A . Milligan, Nathan Chilcote, Henry Roberts, Vincent Kelley, JamesPorte r, Philip Miller, Israel Moore and Samuel Curran were trustees.The pre sent trustees are Joshua Chilcote, Isaiah Rible, JosephKoehler, J. W. C hilcote, Leonard Reddick, James E. Beard and S. Shaw.
