7/25/1849 Tod Twp, Huntingdon Co, PA. (Why was the census early??)Ne wlyweds Solomon, 26, and wife Margaret, 28, were as yet childless,livi ng with them was 16 year old William Curfman. Next door was theJohn C urfman family, probably William's parents. Solomon was afarmer but ha d not real estate but neighbor Curfman had a huge farmso Solomon proba bly farmed for him.
9/6/1860 Same place, PO Huntingdon. The family had exploded sincethe l ast census. Listed were Solomon, 37, Margaret, 38, William, 11,John, 9 , Jane, 7, Margaret A, 5, and Prudence, 6m. Solomon was stilla farmer b ut had only personal property valued at $325. Cufrman wasstill down t he road but apparently had split the farm with children.Perhaps Solomo n rotated among them.
8/2/1870 Broad Top City Borough, PO McConnellstown, Huntingdon Co,PA. T hat census taker found them living in a mining community andrecorded: S olomon Chilcote, 45, Margret, 49, John, 18, Margret, 15,Hannah, 12, Pr udence, 10, and Elizabeth, 7. Solomon and John wereminers.
6/17/1880 Tod Twp, Huntingdon Co, PA. Back nearer his beginningsamon g the "Kurman families before the next census, he had lost hiswife and r emarried with a totally new family. Listed were SolomonChilcoat, 54, w ife Mary, 39, Lawrence, 4, Ida, 1, and Mary's threeShedron children: J oseph, 22, William 16, and Emma, 20. Solomon andthe two Shedron boys w ere coal miners.
6/6/1900 Susquehanna, Dauphin Co, PA. Solomon Chilcote was a patienta t the PA State Lunatic Hospital that year at census time. He was 75ye ars old, born Jan 1825 and married 43 years (not correct for eitheror b oth marriages together). Descendants said he was admitted thereon 11/ 27/1891.
