7/22/1900 Tule Lake Pct, Klamath Co, OR. In that census were Joel TW elch, 31, married 7 years to Estella, 24, who had birthed threechildr en but only two still survived: Ivan, 5, and William J, 2.Joel was a b lacksmith as was the neighbor next door who he probablyworked with, Ge orge Jory, 31.
5/5/1910 Dairy Pct, Klamath Co, OR. That year the census takerlisted h im as Joseph R, 41, with wife Stella, 35, and five children:Ivan, 16, W illiam J, 12, Ione, 8, Rethal, 5, and Joellen, 2. He andStella had be en married 18 years with 8 children but only the 5 stillsurvived. He w as a general farmer.
1/12/1920 Same place. Son Ivan, 26, was head of the house that yeara s a farmer who owned the home with a mortgage. Joel R, 51, wasstill b lacksmithing in a custom shop, Estella, 44, took care of thedaughters , Reathal, 14, Joellen, 11, and Ethal, 1y 5mo.
4/7/1930 Still there. Having lost his wife and retired, Joel R, 61,a nd daughter Ethal, 11, lived with daughter Rethal and Alfred Lillyat c ensus time. Joel had married for the first time at age 24. Hedied 5 w eeks later.
Joel died of Lou Gerig's disease.
Several Welch relatives are buried in the same cemetery, along with 4u nnamed babies.
