He served as Captain of Militia in the Revolution being promoted totha t rank in July 1777. The date of his commission is unknown and thereco rd shows that he had resigned of May 16, 1780. DAR Patriot Index- DAC # 1 6524
Rev. William Douglas performed the wedding of Josiah Leake ofGoochland a nd Ann FENTON of Henrico on 1 January 1759. Josiah thenmarried Ann MIN TER and last Ann FOSTER. A tombstone in the old Leakecemetery in Gooch land Co., 4 miles west of Goochland, has "Sacred tothe memory of Josia h Leake Sr. born 1730 - Anne, Anne, Anne, hiswives".
Josiah inherited the home plantation, Rocky Spring, where he lived hise ntire life. He died 1789 testate with a will on file in GoochlandCo., V A Will Book 16, page 475.
