Fodor's Review:
Built in 1982 by English immigrant Joseph Mattey, a local butcher, this Q ueen Anne Victorian mansion—on the National Register ofHistoric Places —has several cheerful areas that define it.Downstairs is a cozy living r oom jammed with antiques, dual diningareas—a parlor with white wicker a nd a dining room with elegantfurniture—and a porch with a swing. The f our upstairs rooms arewhimsically named after locally grown grape vari eties—riesling, chardonnay, pinot noir, and Blanc de Blanc—and are deco rated inkeeping with the character of those wines: the chardonnay room , forinstance, has tall windows and crisp white furnishings, and the p inotnoir has dark-wood pieces and reddish wine accents. A small balcon yoff the upstairs landing is perfect for sipping a glass of wine on a cool Yamhill Valley evening. Proprietors Jack and Denise will ensureyou 're comfortably ensconced, familiar with the local history, surrounding v ineyards, and the antiquing scene, and holding thatglass of wine: in c ase you don't remember where you are, the house,on 10 acres, is bound b y an orchard and its own vineyard, which thecouple maintains. If your i mprudent enough to duck out before thefine full breakfast, which might i nclude poached pears with raspberrysauce, frittatas, and Dutch-apple p ancakes, Denise or Jack will havepastry and hot coffee available befor e you set off. A rule barringchildren under 10 is waived if you're ren ting the entire house.
