Notes for Jacob SEABURN

" JACOB SEABURN, (Grand Township) deceased, an old and much respectedc itizen of Grand Township, was born in West Virginia May 15, 1804; inth e fall of the same year, his parents, William and Mary Seaburn,removed t o Ohio, settling in Pickaway County, where our subject wasreared to ma nhood. He resided in Pickaway County till January 1828,when he removed t o Grand Township, Marion County. He purchased eightyacres of land, to w hich tract he added till his farm contained 170acres. He was married, D ecember 23, 1826, to Mary Conrad, a native ofGreenbrier County, W. Va. , where she was born November 14, 1804. Mrs.Seaburn's parents migrated t o Pickaway County, Ohio, in 1813. Hergrandfather, Oliver Conrad, was a s oldier in the Revolutionary war.Mr. Seaburn was one of the early pione er settlers of Grand Township,and aided in making many of its first im provements. He gave $500 tothe erection of the Zion Methodist Episcopa l Church, and was anactive man in church work during his life. His dea th occurred October20, 1874. He had filled the office of Trustee of hi s township twelveyears, and of Treasurer thirteen years. He was a man o f integrity,and was highly esteemed in the community. Mrs. Seaburn res ides on thehomestead of 167 acres, in the eightieth year of her age. A p ortraitof Mr. Seaburn appears in this work."

Jacob's name appears in the historical section of the 1878 MarionCount y Atlas among the early settlers of Grand Twp which wasorganized in 18 21 and extended across the entire western side of thecounty.

1830 Grand Twp, Marion Co, OH. At census time Jacob and his wifewere b oth 20-30 years old and had living with them 2 older females,one age 6 0-70, the other at 70-80. Both of their mothers?

In the Marion Co, OH Deed book is:

pg 547 Grantor John Rawles and Clarissa Rawles, Grantee Jacob Seaborn,S igning date 11/20/1830, Neighbors/witnesses wre James Rawles; GeorgeKi ng .

1840 Grand Twp, Marion Co, OH. That census taker recorded jacob atag e 30-40. In the family were 1 male age 5-10,

10/7/1850 Same place. At census time Jacob and Mary were both 45year s old, he was a farmer with real estate worth $1600. Living withthem w ere 2 laborers, Geroge W. Burt, 17, and Edwrd Morgon, 12, aswell as Ma ry's 77 year old mother Eve "Corrod." (Where was sonJohn?)

7/7/1860 Still there, PO Marseilles. By the next census Jacob, 56,ha d amasses an estate worth $4950/1850 and was still farming. Marywas a lso 56, son John, 24 was also counted there but he had nooccupation.

8/3/1870 Same residence, PO LaRue. That year Jacob and Mary Seabornw ere 66 years old but John was going backward as he was only 18.Jacob's p roperty had grown to $6640/2000. He was still farming, Johnwas worked o n the farm.
