John was a brother to James Jump who married Sarah's sister Nancy,i.e. b rothers married sisters.

JOHN JUMP: Again we chronicle the death of another one of our citizensa nd one of the oldest settlers of the country. This time it is onewho h ad rounded out the full course of life. Monday evening,September 2, 19 01, at his home new Goodson, John Jump passedpeacefully away. while ha ndling some bull nettles in cleaning offground to sow in turnips about t wo or three weeks ago he received ascratch on the wrist which blood po ison set in, and owing to his ageit quickly did its work
and he fell asleep.
John Jump was born in St. Louis county, November 10, 1831. He was ason o f John Jump. When about the age of 7 years he moved with hisfather to P olk county and at an early age made a tip to Californiaand remained th ere only about five or six years,when he returned toPolk county. He wa s married to Sarah Jane Zumwalt, in this county, in1857. To this union w as born 12 children - 3 boys and 9 girls. Allare living except one gir l, she ding in infancy. He also has 33grandchildren and one great-gran dchild, all of whom were present towitness his death, together with hi s wife and a large number ofrelatives and friends. In 1862 he enlisted i n the civil war and wasin service about three years, and from which he r eceived an honorabledischarge. In the year 1889 he united with the Met hodist Church inStar Ridge, a member of which he remained till his dea th. He was 69years, 9 months and 22 days old at this death.
The large concourse of friends who followed the remains to their lastr esting place in the Payne cemetery testified to the estimation inwhich M r. Jump was held by all who knew him. The funeral serviceswere conduct ed by Judge Anderson. Mrs. Jump and family have thesympathy of all in t his their hour of sudden and sorrowfulbereavement.
