"Andrew enlisted in the Union Army on 5 March 1862. He was mustered in2 2 April 1862 at Columbia and was under Captain Cook in Company F. Hewa s mustered out 21 April 1865. On the same day, still under CaptainCook , he reenlisted and was ordered in to active service. He wasrelieved f rom duty 31 July 1865. The war was over by then. Aninteresting discove ry we made was, that when he reenlisted, he was aCorporal and was list ed as Andrew P. Zumalt. He may have been namedfor his grandfather, And rew P. Zumwalt."
