"In a land conveyance on 23 July 1853, the younger Jacob and his wifeS arah are referred to as “St. Charles Jacob Zumwalt and Sarah hiswife o f the County of Boone” and also as “St. Charles JacobZumwalt and Sarah Z umwalt his wife (and daughter of the Jacob Zumwaltdeceased)”.
According to Cheryl Tevis at Ancestry.com:
"His brother Nathan Heald Zumwalt states that Jacob died “during”the C ivil War in Missouri. There is a Jacob Zumwalt that was orderedinto Ac tive Service on 16 June 1863 at Columbia, Boone County. By 15August, h e was “absent, sick”. On 31 October 1863 he was still“absent, sick”. H e was relieved from duty 14 November 1863. Thisindicates he must have b een very ill. His last child, Nancy J., wasborn about 1864."
