Thomas M. Plogger
Thomas M. Plogger was born in the county of Rockbridge in West ViginiaJ uly 19?, 1932, and died at his home in Greenfield on September 5,1917, a t 7:40? a.m., aged 85 years, 4? month and 17 days. He was thesixth chi ld in a family of eleven children and remained with hisparents until h e was 21? years of age. He came to Rockbridge, Ill.,in September, 1857 , where he worked on a farm for two years. InAugust, 1862, he enlisted i n the 91st regiment of Illinoisvolunteers, company K, in which he serv ed until the end of the war,receiving an honorable discharge. May 14, 1 862, he was united inmarriage to Mary E. Coonrod, of which union four c hildren were born;Martha Virginia, John H., Chas. T. and William, two o f whom survive,Martha Virginia, the wife of E.J. Kimbro, of Midland, S .D., and JohnH., of Greenfield. His first wife died Oct. 5, 1872. He w as againmarried, his second wife being Sarah Crawford, to whom he was u nitedSept. 9, 1874. To this union were born six children, three of who mare living, viz: Howard, of Rockbridge; Virgil, of Rockbridge, and Lewis, of Brighton. Mr. Plogger was converted when he was a young manand u nited with the Old Ackers? Chapel near Walnut Grove. He movedhis churc h membership to the Rockbridge M.E. Church, and later toGreenfield M.E . church, of which he was a member at the time of hisdeath. Funeral se rvices were held at the M.E. church in this city onFriday, Sept. 7, Re v. H.? C. Smith officiating, assisted by Rev. W.F.Gibson. The intermen t was in Oakwood cemetery under the auspices ofthe G.A.R.
