"DNA proves that John Fulton Drake is related to the Isle of Wight VADrakes and no other documented line including the NH/Piscataway NJDrakes descended from Captain Francis Drake (NOT the admiral!!)"
Also:
"There was a Francis Drake who signed a petition in 1778 in YohoganiaCo VA requesting that the county be subdivided for administrativepurposes. John Fulton Drake signed a similar petition in Yohogania Co.Va in 1782.Yohogania Co Va became Fayette Co PA abt 1786.
I believe that Francis was the father of John Fulton Drake and SamuelDrake and was the father-in-law of Sarah Drake who all appear on thetax lists of 1787 and the 1790 census for Georges township, PA.
This is the same John Drake who married Rebecca Heady in GeorgesTownship, Fayette co PA about 1775. The older Drake children were bornthere. The younger children were born in Nelson Co Ky aft 1793."
And a posting at Ancestry says:
"The 1787 list of landowners of Georges Township includes John Drake,Samuel Drake and Sarah Drake (female head of household).
The 1790 census lists John Drake, Samuel Drake and "widow" Drake allin Georges Twonship, PA-Fayette co.
I believe that John Drake, Samuel Drake, and the widow's late husbandwere brothers and all sons of the same Francis Drake from the NorthernNeck of VA.
The Bennett, Redman, Marrs, Norman and Kester families who appear onSW Pennsylvania and in Kentucky (Nelson, Shelby, Spencer,Bullitt cos.)all seem to be from the Northern Neck of VA. (Westmoreland, KingGeorge, Prince William cos.)"
