5/27/1910 Dist 27, Marshall Twp, Boulder Co, CO. Ernest was listedin t he census as a boarder in the boarding house of Alfred Smith,cook. Er nest was 22 years old with the occupation of laborer at oddjobs.

6/5/1917 Lafayette, CO was the only address he gave when registeringf or the draft, no street or RFD number. His occupation wasstationary e ngineer with the Rocky Mt Tenel (Tunnel?) Co atLafayette. He said he w as married with a child as reason fordeferment. The registrar describ ed him as tall and slender with grayeyes and brown hair.

Ernest Van Gundy Meets Sad Death
Drowned While Fishing In Church's Lake Tuesday Night.

Ernest Van Gundy, aged 27 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. VanGundy, m et with a sad and untimely death last Tuesday night, when he,accompani ed with Phillip Cornelius was fishing in Church's lake,about six miles f rom town.
The boat in which the young men were fishing was capsized and thet wo men started to swim to shore. Cornelius reached the shore but VanGu ndy, it is believed was seized with cramps and succumbed to themercy o f the waters.
Searching parties for the body was diligently kept up untilyester day noon when they found it.
The unfortunate young man was the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. VanGundy , married and has a baby girl about 16 months old.
The funeral services will be held from the Baptist churchtomorrow a fternoon at 2 o'clock.
Besides his parents the deceased leaves two brothers, John ofBeec her City, Ill., and Hugh of this place.


Clarence was buried in the family plot bought by his father.
