United Brethren Church in Christ.—The first meeting of this societywas h eld in a schoolhouse located on Section —, by Rev. J. Powell,in the ye ar 1849. Two years later, a permanent organization waseffected by Rev . William Mathers, with eleven members, as follows:John Gring, F. Clap saddle, William Van Gundy, Charles Shire, SamuelSwinehart, Jane Swineh art, Martha Brady, John Beck, Margaret Morris,Elizabeth Noel, Mary Cra wford and Father Swinehart.

7/29/1850 Sycamore Twp, Wyandot Co, OH. At census time John andJulia , both 23, with children Mary A, 2, and William, 3 months, livedwith w agonmaker, Henry P McEwen, 24. John was a blacksmith. Alsoliving the re was Julia's brother Nelson Van Gundy, 18, no occupation.



Bef 1858 IL when son Andrew was born.

9/4/1860 Big Creek Twp, Henry Co, MO. That year John was counted byt he census taker at age 32, Julia at 33. They had five children bythen : Mary J, 12, Charles S. 9, John W, 7, David E, 4, and Andrew P,2. J ohn was still blacksmithing with property valued at $250/175.They were t he only Grings in the county and they didn't stay long.

Bef 1862 McLean Co, IL when son William was born. Apparently MO wasno t to their liking as they didn't stay long.
Daughter Amanda was born in IL in 1865, Julia was head of the house in1 870.
