"CHARLES J. M. SULLIVAN, Tiffin, was born in Cleveland, Ohio,September G , 1849. His father, the late William Sullivan of Tiffin,was a native o f Cork, Ireland, and son of Michael Sullivan, who diedthere in 1852. W illiam Sullivan was reared to mercantile pursuits inhis native land, a nd came to America in 1846, eventually locating, inhardware merchandis ing, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he married MissHanora Leonard, a native o f County Leitrim, Ireland, who bore him afamily of nine children, of w hom three sons survive: Charles J. M.,Dr. Emmett W., of Cleveland, and J erald E., business manager of the/o?m State Leader, at Des Moines, Iow a. In 1855 William Sullivanremoved his family and business interests t o Tiffin, this county, andwas favorably known as an upright and succes sful business man, and anexcellent citizen till his death, which occur red in April, 1873. Thesubject of this sketch received a good literary t raining in thecollege at Notre Dame, Ind. and in June, 1837, graduated f rom thatinstitution in a commercial course of study. He continued in t hehardware business of his father, retiring from it in 1875. In 1883 he opened his present business, insurance agency, and has operated itsu ccessfully since. He married here, in 1879, Miss Aldee M. Coonrod,a gr aduate of the Ursuline Academy, and daughter of the late Uriah P.Coonr od, of Hopewell Township, this county. They have two daughters,Mary an d Elizabeth. He and his wife are regular communicants of theRoman Cath olic Church. He is a member of St. Patrick's TotalAbstinence Society a nd Catholic Knights of America. Is a liberalsupporter of all measm-es t ending to the development of the interestsof his locality. He was cler k of Tiffin from 1879 to 1885."
