TURBUT AND CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIPS
JOHN HENRY WINGERT was born in Pine Grove, Schuylkill county,Pennsylv ania, December 3, 1852. His father, Jeremiah Wingert, was anative of P erry comity, Pennsylvania, and married Hester, daughter ofJohn Van Gun dy, of Union county. In 1855 he removed to (that county,where he engag ed in business as a farmer and nurseryman. He becameone of the promine nt farmers of that county. Politically he was aRepublican, and served i n various township offices. He was a memberof this Christian church. H e died in 1864; his widow still surviveshim, and is the wife of J. H. S eabold, of New Berlin, Pennsylvania.The subject of this sketch was rea red in Union county and educated atBucknell University, from which he g raduated in 1872. Since then hehas been engaged in the mercantile busi ness at Lewisburg andMontandon, one year at each place, and in teachin g school andfarming. In 1878 he married Lizzie, daughter of Edward Hum mel, ofChillisquaque township. She died in February 1883, leaving one c hild,Marion Mae. Mr. Wingert has been teacher of the same school six years. He is a member of the Baptist church of Montandon, deacon andcle rk of the same, and has also been superintendent of the Sabbathschool f or a number of years. Politically he is a Democrat, and hasbeen audito r and assessor of the township several terms.
