Harriet Elizabeth Berry Coulson was born near Exeter, in Scott county,I llinois, Jan. 15, 1864, and died March 16, 1920, at her home nearChapi n, being at the time of her death 65 years, two months and oneday of a ge. She was of a family of six children born of the lateJames and Aman da Berry, pioneer farmers of the Exeter community.

Of this family there is now living one brother, S. C. Berry, and onesi ster, Noda, wife of Elmer F. Walker. Alice, wife of Charles Morris;Emm a, wife of John Miller; and Laura, wife of George Colling, haveprecede d her in death.

On September 5, 1883, she was united in marriage with Geroge H.Coulson , and to this union were born four children, as follows: Alta,who depa rted this life Nov. 23, 1902; Irvin, now living in East St.Louis, Ill. ; Elmer, whose home is in Jacksonville, Ill., but is atpresent in Ariz ona; and Noda, wife of R. A. Garner, living at homeand the following g randchildren, namely: George Newton and WarrenCoulson, of Jacksonville ; Maurine Coulson, of East St. Louis, andlittle Marion and Imogene Gar ner, of Chapin, Ill.

In early life, Mrs. Coulson professed faith in Christ and joined theBa ptist church, later, after her marriage, transferring hermembership to t he Christian church of Chapin, Ill., where she took anactive interest i n the work of the organization through a long periodof years.

Mrs. Coulson was essentially a home woman and found her greatestpleasu re in ministering to those she loved.

She was of a kindly and deeply solicitous nature, and it was thismarke d trait of character that manifested itself so promptly when thewell b eing of her own, or other was concerned.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, March 19, at 1 o'clockat t he Chapin Christian church in the presence of a large number offriends . The church services were preceded by brief rites at thehome, Rev. F. M . Crabtree, of Jacksonville, in charge.

The music was furnished by Mrs. Nettie Taylor, Mrs. Fred Eiler, JohnEi ler and Frank Calloway, with Miss Ruth Hutches at the piano.

The many beautiful flowers were cared for by Mrs. Daisy Vannier, Mrs.S tell Williams, Mrs. Doll Depner and Miss Rose Tomhave.

The pall bearers were G. P. Hamilton, Albert Vannier, Fred Middendorf,H arry Koch, Walter Robbitt and John Porter.

Interment was in the Chapin cemetery.
