John William has been assumed to be Gabriel's son but most likely wast he son of Anna's prior husband Joseph, Gabriel's brother.

His 1st wife died while he was in MO or there abouts, and he took thet rain home for for a week or so (I'd have to look that up again to beex act). He resigned his comish on Sept. 2nd (as you had) while he wasin N ew Orleans, Louisiana. He had a funny entrie in his diary (orcould ha ve been a letter) where he watch a military review down theirwhere Gra nt was so drunk he fell off his horse! I've heard variousthings about W illiam and drinking from him being strictly against it,to where he dra nk a lot after the civil war."
6/19/1870 Padua Twp again. That census taker recorded him asWilliam, 3 3, wealthy farmer with property valued at $6680/1000.Second wife Mary w as only 20 and children were Henry O, 10, Rose B,7, and Frank, 2 month s. Also counted there was nephew John W, Gring,19, laborer.
6/7/1880 Ellsworth, McLean Co, IL William, 42, had switchedoccupatio ns by next census time, to dry goods merchant. Wife Mary Hwas 30 and t he family had grown toinclude: Henry O, 20, engaged infarming; Frank, 1 0; Harry, 7; Ora, 4; and Clay, 2.
6/4/1900 Dawson, McLean Co, IL. That year at census time, Williamwas 6 3, married 16 years to Sarah E, 44, who had birthed 5 children,all liv ing. The family consisted of their children together, Roy,15, Minta, 1 3, Grant, 12, Claude, 10, and Wayne, 8, as well asWilliam's older sons C lay, 22, and Harry, 27. Son Frank lived downthe road. William's paren ts were born in OH & PA respectively.
