Abraham Jefferson Van Gundy, son of Julius and Cordelia Van Gundy, wasb orn on July 7, 1871 in Huntsville, Ohio, and died on September 18,1962 a t his home in Kiowa, where he had resided for 57 years, at theage of 9 1 years, 2 months and 11 days. He came to Kansas in 1891 andmade the r un into the Cherokee Strip where he proved up a claim. Hewas married t o Annie Brannan on September 1, 1905 in Alva, Oklahoma.Mr. Van Gundy w as a blacksmith by trade. He was a member of ModernWoodmen of the Worl d Lodge for 55 years. He is survived by his wife,Annie of the home; tw o sons, Charlie Van Gundy of Valley Center andRalph Van Gundy of Wichi ta; a daughter, Mrs. Clyde Schwartz of Kiowa;a brother, Harve Van Gund y of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; two sisters, AliceMarah of Berthoud, Colorad o and Dixie Bacon of Englewood, California;two grandsons, Jack Van Gun dy of Wichita and Jim Van Gundy ofOklahoma City, Oklahoma; a granddaug hter, Phyllis Higgins of ValleyCenter; and five great-grandchildren.
