He lived with his parents until his marriage in 1851 when he beganfarm ing for himself. In 1855 he sold his property and stock with theinten tion of going to Kansas, but instead bought eighty acres inPrairieton T ownship, Christian County ( TS 13 N R1E). By 1868 hisfarm included 6 60 acres in Sections 4, 5, 8, and 9. In politics hewas a member of th e old Whig Party and later a Democrat.
