"Josiah Coonrod was born in Marion County, Ohio, January 15, 1832, andi s one of eight children born to Adam and Matilda (Morral) Coonrod,and n amed as follows: Jacob, William, Josiah, Elizabeth, Sarah,Martha, Mary a nd Melissa. The father was born in Virginia about theyear 1799, was a f armer, and died in Marion County, Ohio, in 1878. Atthe age of twenty-s even, Josiah Coonrod came to Liberty Township andlocated a few rods ea st of his present farm, to which he removed ashort time after arriving . It is situated nine and a half milesnortheast of Monticello, compris es 160 acres, and is improved with agood two-storied frame dwelling, a m ost convenient barn andcommodious outbuildings. He was married, Februa ry 11, 1858, to MaryEngler, who has, borne him six children - David, W illiam, Adam, John,Norah and Josiah, the youngest deceased. Mr. Coonro d is a carefulfarmer and a skillful stock raiser, and he realizes prob ably morefrom his stock than from his crops, cattle and sheep receivin g hisspecial attention."
