"MRS. MARY (BUNN) COONROD, (Grand Prairie Township) widow of AdamCoonr od. The latter was born in Pennsylvania April 20, 1797. Hesettled in F airfield County, Ohio, in 1810; then he moved to WyandotCounty, and in 1 830 settled in Grand Prairie Township, Marion County,and purchased 200 a cres of land. He was a prosperous farmer, and muchesteemed as a citize n, and served the township in various localoffices. He was a member of t he United Brethren Church at Marion, andduring the late years of his l ife to was, politically speaking, aRepublican. He died August 20, 1876 , at a big homestead, whichconsisted of 260 acres of land, in Grand Pr airie Township. He left awidow and eight children. He was married to M ary Bunn, June 21, 1842.She was born June 9, 1816. Her father, John Bu nn, with his family,settled in Grand Prairie Township in 1824. John Bu nn was a soldier inthe war of 1812, and was taken prisoner by the Brit ish at the time ofHull's surrender at Detroit. 'He afterward lived in R oss County,Ohio, from whence he came to Marion County. Mrs. Mary (Bunn ) Coon.rodlives on the old homestead in Grand Prairie Township. Her tw o sons,George W. and Howard W., are carrying on the farm. She also own s ahouse and three lots in Marion. Two of her sons served as soldiers i nthe Union army during the war of the great Rebellion. John Coonrod enlisted in the Eighth Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and serveddurin g the whole war. Howard W. Coonrod enlisted in Company I, OneHundred a nd Seventy-fourth Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, August24, 1864, pa rticipated in the battle of Murfreesboro, and serveduntil the close of t he war. He was honorably discharged from theservice July 3, 1865."
