"ALBERT PUMPHREY, farmer; P. O. Rich Hill, Knox Co.; is a son ofFlemin g and Elizabeth (Lewis) Pumphrey; his father was born inVirginia, abou t 1810, and emigrated to Ohio in 1835, settling inJefferson Co., where t he family remained some time, thence toHarrison Co., remaining there t en years ; from there they moved toMissouri for two years, after which h e made his settlement in KnoxCo., where he died in 1863. His mother di ed in 1841. Albert was bornJan. 14, 1837, in Harrison Co.; at the age o f 25, he began businessfor himself, on a farm of eighty acres, in Alle n Co., Ind., which hetraded to James Laughlin, and settled on the farm n ow owned byCullum. He is now living on a small lot of seven acres, in S ec. 4,where he enjoys a fine little home. He has a storeroom in Harlem Township, Delaware Co., valued at $2,500, which is in addition to anice d welling and barn. Was married Nov. 4, 1863, to Mary Gundy, adaughter o f Joseph and Mary (Smith) Gundy ; her parents were nativesof Pennsylva nia, and emigrated to Ohio in 1819, settling in HarrisonCo.; they had n ine children, five now living; her mother died inOctober, 1876. Mrs. P umphrey was born July 20, 1839, in TuscarawasCo., Ohio. They have six c hildren-Percival, born March 28, 1865, diedOct. 27, 1865 ; William, bo rn Nov. 11, 1866 ; Joseph, Jan. 23, 1870 ;Minnie, Sept. 9, 1868, died J an. 7, 1869 ; Clarence, born March 12,1874: Charles, Feb. 7, 1877."
