"GEORGE HEISTAND was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, January 28, 1832,s on of Daniel and Nancy (Krans) Heistand, natives of Pennsylvania,and o f Dutch descent. His parents were married in Fairfield County,and in 1 837 moved to Wood County, where they purchased and cleared afarm of fo rty acres which they sold in 1844. They then moved toSeneca County, an d, after eight years, to this county, locating inTyinochtee Township, w here Mrs. Heistand died. Mr. H. died inIndiana. George, the subject of t his sketch, was married, August 9,1855, to Mary E. Van Gundy, a reside nt of this township, native ofRoss County, Ohio, and daughter of Micha el and Hannah (Eyestone) VanGaudy, natives of Pennsylvania and Ohio re spectively, and of Germandescent. Mr. and Mrs. Heistand have two sons- William H., born July17, 1856, and Isaac, born February 22, 1859. In O ctober, 1856, Mr.Heistand moved to the farm of eighty acres where he n ow resides. Heis a successful farmer and a strong Republican, well res pected in hiscommunity."

7/21/1860 Sycamore, Wyandot Co, OH. The census recorded George"Heast on" at age 27 and Elizabeth at 36. They had 2 sons, Henry, 4,and Isaa c, 2. Living with them was 25 year old Nick Burr, nooccupation. Geor ge was a farmer with property worth $2500.
7/23/1870 Same place. Listed that year in the census, again asGeorge H easton, at age 38, he was still farming and the value of hisestate had g rown to $5000/880. Wife Mary E was 45 and the two boys,William and Is aac, were 13 and 10 respectively.
6/11/1880 Still at the same place. Finally the census got thefamily' s name correct at Heistand. By then George was 50, Mary E was56 and s till at home was son Isaac, 21, along with his wife Mary D,14. George a nd Isaac were both farmers.
George's obit was in the Tiffin Daily Tribune, Tiffin, Seneca Co., OH:
"Heistand- George Heistand, a well known Farmer, died at his home,near S y camore, Thursday afternoon age 75 years. He was a native ofFairfield C ounty and is survived by one son, Isaac, residing on thehome farm. Mr . H eistand was a member of the 144th O. V. I. in thecivil war. The fune r al will be held at the United Brethren church,in Sycamore, Tuesday mor n ing, at 9:30. Reverend J. N. Holmes willofficiate. "
