6/12/1860 T15 R14, near Naples, Scott Co, IL. That year the censusre corded John P at 37 years old, a farmer with a large estate valuedat $ 8000/2000. Wife Sarah A was 31 and they had a full houseconsisting of : Sarah J, 12; Julia A, 10; Rosa Lee, 8; James R, 6;George W, 4; Henr y H, 2; plus several farm laborers: John W Permiger(probably Peninger , futuer son-in-law), 18; Nicholas Fox, 19; HenryBraman, 23; and Wm Mi ller, 28. Two doors down was Wm Snowden,probably John's older brother .
Where was this family in 1870? They must have been on the move.

The census taker found them therean d recorded John P at 56 years old, still farming, Sarah A at 50 andchi ldren in the house included daughter Rosa L Peninger, 27, Beede,19, De lilah, 17, son SS, 14, and a work hand, Benjamin Graham, 20.Daughter B eede was disabled due to "fits" and daughter Delilah taughtschool.
1887 Son Sherman married his first wife in Morgan Co, IL that year,he m arried the second in Macoupin Co, IL in 1897.
6/12/1900 N Palmyra, Macoupin Co, IL. Back nearer home again forthei r old age, the census recorded John P at 77, married 44 years toSarah, 6 9, who had birthed 11 children, only 6 of whom stillsurvived. Living w ith them was daughter Bede, 39. John's occupationwas landlord. Next d oor was son Sherman and family.
