1880 Dist 116 near Jackson, Lyons Co, KS. At census time John was a3 3 year old farmer, wife Phebe was 23 and little Isabell was 2 monthsol d. Next door was brother Frank and in the same area were theirfather a nd step-mother.

1920 Jackson Twp, Lyon Co, KS. John C Vangundy, 73, was born in IN,his parents in OH/KY. He was still farming and owned the home free ofmortgage. In his family were wife Phebe M, 72, born IL; sonEuphraties, 23, daughter Myra, 21, and grandson Vernon Rector, 5, allborn in KS. Euphraties was a farmer manager.

Mr. Rosenquist also has a copy of "Reminiscences of Frontier Life onthe Upper Neosho," which was publised in 1925 by Mrs. Daily's brother,John D. Van Gundy. The book gives an account of the founding ofNeosho Rapids in 1855 and 1856 and the struggles of the early Kansaspioneers with Indians and outlaws and other hardships.


The 1880 census recorded John's birth place as IN.
