6/8/1880 Same place. That year the census taker recorded him asSamue l Vangunda, 36, with wife Martha, 29, and children: William A,9, Henr y H, 6, Clinton, 4, Leoty, 2, and Walter, 4 months. Samuel'soccupatio n was farming. An Irvin Dottson lived 2 doors down but hewas too old t o be a step-brother. Lewis lived in the same area.

Martha was 52 and had borne 11 children but only 9 stillsurvived.
