O n the morning above referred to, the family ontaking his breakfast to h is room, as had been their custom, found himon the floor near his bed, c old in death.
William Jones was born in the state of Virginia, Culpeper County, inth e year 1790. When quite a young man he left Virginia and removed toKen tucky, where he made the acquaintance of Lucinda Ginn, whom heshortly m arried and lived in Kentucky until their first child wasborn. When the c hild was a year old, they thought to try theirfortune in the far west, a nd started on their perilous journey onhorseback- the wife carrying th e child before her. The journey wasmade through almost unbroken forest , attended with many dangers anddifficulties. They arrived safely upon t he banks of the White WaterValley, which is now the admiration and won der of travelers, but atthat time it had no charms for any save the re d man who was monarchof all he surveyed. After a short stay on the Whi te Water, Mr Joneswent a little further west where he entered land in t his township, built a cabin and spent the remainder of his days. Mr. Jo nes, fatherof eleven children, nine of whom are still living' had 72 grandchildren and 48 great- grandchildren. His remains were interred int he Columbia cemetery beside the companion of his youth.
Mr Jones was cared for in his illness by James Thomas, his son-in-law,w ho left nothing undone that might render him comfortable in his lastho urs."
