Lease and Release. 26 and 28 April 1714. Phillip Graffort, mariner,and P ollatia his wife of St. Pauls Parish in the County of Staffordin the C olony of Virginia, sell Mr. Lawrence Taliaferro, Gent., ofSt. Marys Pa r., Essex Co., 1/3 part of a tract of land lying in theforest in Essex C ounty, part of a Dividend formerly granted Mr EnochDoughty by patent d ated 15 June 1675 of 4763 acres, bounded accordingto patent, which 1/3 w as formerly in lawful possession of WilliamBerry of Richmond Co., who c onveyed it in fee simple to BenjaminNewton of Stafford County by deed d ated 11 April 1690. which landBenj. Newton by his will dated 2 January 1 709 gave the tract of landto his daughter Pollatia now the wife of Phi llip Graffort.

1775-76 Some relatives think he may have taken part in Bacon'sRebelli on and even suffered severe wounds which eventually resultedin his dea th.
He was born the following year after his parents landed in the NewWorl d.
His will was dated 9/8/1677 with a memo dated 11/22/1677. He left hise state to his unnamed children "and as my desire is that they may goeou t of the country I doe impower my overseers Francis Doughty andJames P hillips to put on sale all my lands and goods and Chattels formoney go od for my children."

Witnesses were John Simpton, Jonathan Bates, and Hugh X Mane

Memo. "16 hhds of Tob. that my brother carried to England is properlyu pon my account for him to make use being my own crop and 55 acct. myBr other owes me a Bill of Thomas Becks to my Brother I have paid himfor i t and another of George Grime I have received many Bills inStafford of m y Brother in my name and have given him at my plantationand ye other i n Potomack ward."
