At the outbreak of the Civil War, John enlisted in Co F, 46th Reg, OHV ol Infantry.

2/20/1862 He was promoted to Cpl under 1st Lt John B Neil and ColWort hington.

6/15/1864 Noonday Creek, GA John was wounded.

7-28-1864 Ridge Resucu, GA He received another wound that proved tob e fatal after a few days of suffering.

He had participated in the battles of Shiloh, Siege of Corinth,Jackson , Dallis, and Atlanta.
