"Peter Gundy was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, December 29, 1831.His p arents were Noah and Anna (Line) Gundy, the former native ofPennsylvan ia, and the latter of Fairfield, County, Ohio, both ofEngland descent. O ur subject was raised on the farm his father wasreared on, and at the a ge of twenty-three he began to work forhimself by engaging to work on a f arm near Ft. Wayne, by the month.
In 1856, he took a trip to Missouri, and remained one summer, butretur ned to Ft. Wayne about the 1st of February 1857. On the 8th ofthis mo nth, he was married to Miss Mary A. Miller. This union wasblessed wit h six children: Ida A., who died when about six years ofage: Florence A . (Mrs. Thomas Daugherty), Ulysses A., Elizabeth,Sarah C. (Mrs. Henry H olmes), and an infant who died in infancy,unnamed. Mrs. Gundy is a mem ber of the Untied Brethren Church. Mr.Gundy is a solid Republican and t ook part in the late war. Heenlisted in Company C, Fifty-fourth Regim ent, Indiana Volunteers,under Capt. L. C. Becford, and took part in th e battle of Vicksburg.He mustered out in 1863, and returned home.? He c ame to this county1861, and settled on the farm where he now resides i n Section 31Jefferson Twp. He now owns 159 acres of fine improved lan d, which hehas developed from the woods. By dint of industry and pers everance,he has succeeded in proving himself with a comfortable home. I t hastaken years of hard and earnest toil, but Mr. Gundy never despair edbut kept steadily on. Farming has been his life occupation, and he can be classed among Jefferson's most successful farmers."

Death of Peter Gundy.
Peter Gundy was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, December 29, 1831. Hisp arents were Noah and Anna (Line) Gundy, the former a native ofPannsylv ania and the latter of Fairfield county, Ohio--both ofEnglish descent. H e was raised on the farm on which his father wasreared, and at the age o f twenty-three years began to work forhimself, by engaging to work on a f arm near Fort Wayne, Ind., by themonth. In 1856 he took a trip to Mis souri and remained one summer,but returned to Fort Wayne about the fir st of February following. Onthe 8th of that month he was married to Mi ss Mary A. Miller, of FortWayne. This union was blessed with six child ren: Ida A., who diedwhen six years of age; Florence A., Ulysses A., E lizabeth, Sarah C.,and an infant who died in infancy unnamed. Mrs. Gun dy is a member ofthe U.B. church. Mr. Gundy enlisted in Co C. 54th Reg iment, Ind. Vol.under Capt. L.C. Beckford, and took part in the battle o f Vicksburg.He was mustered out in Dec. 1863, and returned home. He se rved in thearmy about 14 months, during which time he was in prison ab out threemonths. He came to Huntington county in 1861, and settled on t he farmwhere he lived up to the time of his death, which occurred Dec. 2 5,1901, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 26 days.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at Otterbein church andinterme nt will be in Woodlawn cemetery, near Warren.
