"Men of great strength were numerous and popular among the pioneers.Jo hn Huntwork, not a giant in size, either, was a very strong man.Once a t Zanesville, on a bet made by Mr. Fairchild, he loaded threewagons wi th salt, picking each barrel, weighing three hundred poundseach, by th e chimes and pitching them into the wagons.
On another occasion he carried eleven bushels of wheat up a pair ofste ps at one load. Noah Gundy, late of Liberty township, witnessedboth as tounding feats."
1840 Liberty Twp, Fairfield Co, OH. The census recorded only Noahand G eorge Gundy living there that year. Noah's household included:2 males u nder 5, 2 at 5-10, 1 at 30-40, 1 was 70-80, 1 female under5, 1 aged 5- 10, 1 at 10-15, 1 at 30-40, and 1 was 70-80. Did hisparents live with h im?
1850 Same place. That year Noah had a large family plus his 77 yearo ld father. Noah was 40, as was Ann. He was a farmer with $2500worth o f real estate. Their children were: Sarah, 19, Peter, 18,Catherine, 1 6, George, 14, Nathaniel, 13, Elizabeth, 12, John, 10,Cyrus (listed as f emale but was probably Silas), 5, and Hannah, 2.
