Notes for Thomas G BOONE


He was a second cousin of the illustrious Daniel Boone.

He wa a steam boat pilot on the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers withhe adquarters at Alton, IL.

Unfortunately his line died, leaving no posterity to follow.

8/1/1850 St Louis, Dist 82, St Louis Co, MO. Thomas Boon, 30, wasCap t of a ferry boat, according to the census. He lived in a largeboardi ng house run by John Cool but his occupation was listed ascoffee house k eepter.

6/6/1860 St Louis, Ward 7, St Louis Co, MO. Listed as Thomas Boon int he census, he was a 38 yeas old pilot, Sarah was 30. They had twochil dren, James, 7, and Margaret, 4. All but Sarah were born in MO.It loo ks as thought Sarah ran a boarding house as 16 other peoplelived in th e same house, including Matty Vangundy, 27, from IL, and aservant, 22 y ear old Durika Kinoning. The rest were all men, manywere also pilots, o ne was a bartender, another a clerk, and one was agass fitter (?).

7/7/1870 City of Alton, Madison Co, IL Before the next census theyha d jumped across the river and son James had died. Thomas Boon, 49,was a p ilot on the river and had property with a value of $500/500.Sarah was 4 0, Maggie was 14. Also counted there was female MHarlow, 26, born MO b ut without any occupation.

6/4/1880 South side of 4th St between Easton & Sampson St, Alton.That y ear the census taker misrecorded Thomas Boon at age 38 when itshould h ave been 58. He was a pilot of the Missour River. Sarah Awas 49, Mag gie N, 20, was a school teacher. Also counted with themwas 23 year ol d Newton Krunston but a note says he was a boarderwith the Black fami ly across the street.
