He was named for his maternal grandfather, Enoch Doughty.

If Enoch had all the children listed, why were only Thomas andWinifred m entioned in his will?

Hanover Parish, King George Co, VA. Enoch inherited his father'splant ation, living there until his death.
His will, dated 24 Oct 1763 and probated 1 Dec 1763, said:

In the Name of God Amen. I Enoch BERRY of the County of King George int he Parish of Hanover being sick and weak in body but of sound andperfe ct mind and memory thanks be given to God for it do make andordain thi s to be my Last Will and Testament in manner and formfollowing:

First I bequeath my Soul to God who gave it and my body to the earthto b e decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereaftermentioned i n full and certain hopes of the forgiveness of all my sinsthrough the m erits of Jesus Christ my savior and for what temporalestate it hath pl eased God to bestow on me.

I give and bequeath as followeth.

Item I give to my grandchildren by my daughter Winifred BERRY Twohundr ed pounds to be equally divided among said children as theymarry or co me of age to be paid by my executor hereafter named; alsotwo Negro wom en named Rose and Nell with all their increase to themand their heirs f orever; and as the children come of age or marry theNegroes to be divi ded into four equal parts and the child that isfirst of age or marries t o have choice of the four equal parts andthe other three parts to be p ut in one common stock till the nextchild come of age of marry and so o n in that manner till they allreceive their parts; and if my son-in-la w Benjamin BERRY thinks fitto keep said Negroes till my grandchildren c ome of age or marry thathe give security to King George Court.

Item all the rest of my estate both real and personal I give andbequea th to my son Thomas BERRY to him and his heirs forever; and Ido appoin t my son Thomas Berry my full and sole executor of this mylast will an d testament.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th dayo f October one thousand seven hundred and sixty three.

The last will and testament of Enoch BERRY, deceased was presented inc ourt by Thomas BERRY the Executor therein named who made oaththereto a nd according to law 7 the same being further proved by theoath of the w itnesses xx xxxx admitted to record and on the motion ofthe said Execu tor Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probatethereof in due f orm.
