1774 Frederick Co, Benjamin bought land there. He is often confusedw ith his cousin Benjamin (son of Joseph), also in Frederick County.
10/6/1776 He served in the VA militia during the Rev War as a gunsmitha nd was discharged 10/1777.

....Later on the town was granted a charter Jany. 15, 1798, andincorpo rated and named Berryville for its founder Benjamin Berry.Twenty acres o f land, the property of Benjamin Berry and SarahStrebling, was taken. C larke County was formed March 8, 1836;Berryville was chosen as the cou nty seat, where the first court washeld March 28th."

Benjamin Berry, son of Henry Berry of King George County, settled inwh at is now Clarke County (VA) prior to the Revolution, and in 1798,he p rocured the formal establishment of the town of Berryville, thetown ha ving been platted by him, and consisting of a portion (twentyacres) of a l arger tract of land owned by him and his daughter, SarahStribling. He a nd she are buried in the northeast section of the yardof Grace Episcop al Church.

Benjamin's will was dated 8/18/1810 and proved 10/2/1810. In it hegav e to Betsy Lane, late B. T. Stribling, one half personal estateand tha t part of my real estate called "Berry Farm" adjoining theTown of Berr yville to Bellah Stribling, other half of personal estateand farm I bo ught of Benjamin Taylor.
