Next door wasMatilda's wid owed father.

At that time James was a 39 year old farmer(wa s actually 41) with property valued at $2000/350, Matilda was 37.Their c hildren were Henry, 17, Mary, 15, Thomas, 13, James, 11,Willis, 7, and C harles, 2. Next door was the William Ooley family,probably living in h is father's home place.

Some records say he was born in White Co, IL but every census says TN.
He may have died in 1885.
