Wife Elen was 28, the children wereEva E , 11, Thomas J, 8, John H, 6, and Lydia A, 1, all but Lydia wereborn i n IL, Lydia in MO. Jame's parents were both born in IA, bothof Elen's i n TN. They were the only Berrys in the county.

Living with them weresons John H , 26, and Lee E, 18, and John's new bride Ida J, also 26.James, Ellen a nd John were born in IL, Lee in MO, Ida in IA. James'parents were bot h born in OH, Ellen's in VA and IL. Both men wereday laborers.

The couple hadbeen married 4 1 years, Ellen had birthed 5 children and all stilllived. James worke d as laborer in cement work. An Aaron A Brownlived next door with his m other-in-law, Mary Atherton, but was single(possibly Lydia's future hu sband?).
