"The Killing of John D Baucom
On Jul 19, 1875, near Johnson City, in Monegaw Township, MO, JohnBerry k illed John D Baucom. He claimed that Baucom had broken up thepeace of h is family, and in a manner that only blood could atone. Acoroner's jur y found that Baucom died from 3 gunshot wounds receivedat the hands of J ohn Berry. An arrest warrant was issued, but JohnBerry fled the State. I n 1877 he was arrested in Illinois and broughtback to Missouri to stan d trial. On the 7th March 1878, trial began.By 10:00 pm that night the c ase was given to the jury. After 30minutes deliberation, the jury retu rned with a "not guilty" verdict.(His father - E.C. (Enoch Chapman) Be rry was called upon to testify -also his wife Lucy J."

6/15/1900 Monegaw Twp, St Clair Co, MO. By census time that year,Joh n had remarried the second wife. Recorded there were John OBerry, 46, w ife Margret, 34, and children Clark, 11, Prudence, 9,Alma JU, 6, and W inona, 5. Living in the same township were sisterWinona and William F airman.
4/15/1910 Blue Mound Twp, Vernon Co, MO. Before the next census JohnO B erry, 59, had moved where he was found with Bell, 27, Clark, 21,Minnie , 15, Junnie, 5, Liston, 3, and Johnnie, 1y 1m. John and Bellhad been m arried 8 years, she had birthed 4 children but one haddied.
The 1900 census says John was born 7/1851.
Cemetery records have his name as John Ollie Berry and he's the onlyBe rry there.
