DAR records say Enoch served in the Rev War as an Ensign, alsofurnishe d supplies and that his residence was Hampshire Co, VA.
1786 Nelson Co, KY. The first time he showed up on tax records hisre sidence was in the tax district of "from where the county roadcrosses S alt River on the north side of the road including all watersof Coxes C reek." Nearby were in-laws, James and John McMahan.
1787 Nelson Co, KY. Living within the bounds of "Cap. Cox'sCompany", h e and brothers, William and John were listed in taxrecords that year. I n the same area were the "McMachan" families ofJames and John. Enoch h ad 1 tithable, specifics unknown.
1788 Nelson Co, KY. Apparently tax lines shifted leaving Enoch theon ly Berry and no McMahans in the area to be taxed. Enoch's tax wasstil l 1 tithable.
1790 Enoch; brothers, George, and William; and Richard and James"McMa chen" then lived within the "Bounds of Capt. McDonals & Capt.McFauls C ompanies. Enoch's assets had grown to 2 tithables.
1792 At tax time Enoch's family included only 1 male over 21(himself) , he had 100 acres, 5 horses and 18 cattle. George andWilliam lived i n the same district as did Enoch's in-laws, Richardand John McMahan.
1793 His estate included 115 acres, 5 horses and 15 cattle. He wasst ill the only male over age 21. George and Williams were still inthe a rea.
1818 White Co, IL. The census taker recorded Enoch there butisolated f rom other verified family. Son, Enoch Jr, was also therebut living am ong the Shipleys and "Mahan" families.
1820 White Co, IL. He was still there and the family included 2males o ver 21 and 8 other whites. He and brother, Joel, who lived 3doors dow n, were the only Berrys left but the Ooleys, relatives ofthe remarried w idow of son Enoch, were still in the same county butwere not close nei ghbors.
He must have been moved back to KY to be nearer family who would caref or him in his last days.
His will read: State of KY Butler County, 21 January, 1822
"In the name of God Amen, I Enoch Berry of Butler County and State ofK Y considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of soundmi nd and memory Blessed be to Almighty God for the Savior do make andpub lish this my last will and testament in manner for form following-
That is to say first I give my soul to God who gave it
2. I give to my oldest son George Berry all my stock of Cattle whichha s been in his care for some years past that being his part that I alot h im.
3. I give to the heirs Enoch Berry Ten Dollars
4. I give to my daughter Nancy Covington Seventy-five Dollars
5. I give to my son Francis Berry Seventy-five Dollars
6. I give to my daughter Jean Thomaz Seventy-five Dollars
7. I give to my daughter Betsy Womack Ten Dollars
8. I give to my daughter Franky Bunch Seventy five Dollars
9. I give to my daughter Peggy Womack Ten Dollars and to saidPeggy’s o ldest daughter Manerva my bed furniture all belongingto it.
10. I give to my four youngest sons (towit) Richard Berry, JamesBerry, J ohn Berry and Presly Berry my plantation which I now claimlying on Big M uddy Creek, joining Thomas Barns William Carson theland to be equally d ivided between the four boys when the youngestcomes of age. The planta tion to be rented to the best advantage tillthe money is made from the r ent to pay the other legatees
