"Stephen Gurod, alias Conrad"

3/27/1780 Augusta Co, VA As a Lieutenant of the army, he was amongth e list of officers who "qualify," for what not noted.

June 23, 1783.
"Capt. Stephen Coonrod came into Court and proved that he lost orm islaid a Certain Certificate granted by Col. Wm. Nall to John Fie soth at it cannot be found for one old Wolfs Scalp and that the same isOrde red to be Certified."

1788 Listed among county tithables was: Jacob Coonrod, 16 horses andn o slaves. Usually, however, those who had a large number of horsesalso h ad a considerable number of slaves, and vice versa.

Apparently he sued an estate for payment for keeping the mother of thef amily until she died but what was the connection between the two?

From Augusta Co, VA Court records:

7/31/1806 "Conrad vs. Kirtley--O. S. 112; N. S. 38--Bill, 31st July,1 806. Orator is Stephen Conrad of Rockingham. About 1769 HonoriusPowell o f Orange County died. The widow, Jennett Powell, compromisedwith the c hildren as to the property. Nathaniel Allen and RobertRoyston intermar ried with two of the granddaughters of Jennett, andwere living in Geor gia. St. Clair Kirtley was also Jennett'sgrandson, with whom she lived , but became dissatisfied and lived atorator's house until her death."
