Summary of his Revolutionary War record (#S.16702), dated 25 May 1928,b y Winfield Scott:

"I advise you that from the Revolutionary War records of this bureauit a ppears that John Chilcoat (not Chilcoal) was born November 27,1758 in B altimore County, Maryland.
"While a resident of Bedford County, Pennsylvania he volunteered inMay 1 775, served nine months as private in Captain Frank Cluggage'sPennsylv ania Company against the Indians, who were under Colonel GuyJohnson, a nd was in skirmishes, captured and burned the Indian towns.

"He volunteered in the spring 1776, served seven months as private inC aptain Thomas Blair's Pennsylvania Company, then volunteered inApril 1 777 and served nine months as Indiana Spy and ranger in thesame compan y.

"He subsequently served six months on volunteer scouting expeditions,o fficers' names not given.

"After the Revolution he lived in Bedford County, Pennsylvania,Baltimo re County, Maryland, Rowan County, North Carolina, MadisonCounty, Kent ucky, Franklin County, Tennessee, and Cooper County,Missouri.

"He was allowed a pension on his application executed April 4, 1834whi le a resident of Morgan County, Missouri.

"He died July 10, 1851 in Morgan County, Missouri. His wife hadpreviou sly died, her name not given.

"In 1855 soldier's sons, John aged twenty years and Joshua agedeightee n years were living in Morgan County, Missouri."

1790 Bedford Co, PA. Listed in that census as John Chillcoat, therew ere in his household 1 male over 16, 1 under and 2 females. Theylived b etween Plumb and Werts families, neighbors all unfamiliarnames.

1799 Madison Co, KY where John gave permission for two daughters tomar ry.

1800 His name was on tax records there as a land owner.

Franklin Co, TN where he served in the Winchester Home Guard.

Bef 1821 Cooper Co, MO when son Floyd was born.

1830 Cooper Co, MO. That year John's family included 2 males under5, 2 a ge 5-10, John was 70-80, and 1 female at 20-30.

1840 Richland, Morgan Co, MO. John was listed on the census at 80yea rs of age and a pensioner of the Rev War. In his household were 1male u nder 5, 1 at 5-10, 1 was 10-15, 2 at 15-20, 1 female age 5-10,and 1 at 3 0-40. They were the only ones by the name in the state.

8/26/1850 Moreau Twp, Morgan Co, MO. The census taker found the oldg entleman there, recording his age at 95. Living with him were sonsJoh n V, 16, laborer, and Joshua, 14. They lived between sons Williamand R ichard with son with "Flawed" farther down the road.
His death date may be 7/21/1851 as some researcher say.
