Notes for Robinson CHILCOTE


From A History of the Juniata Valley:

"Robinson, son of John (2) Chilcote, was the founder of the family inH untingdon county, Pennsylvania. He moved with his family fromMaryland t o near Shirleysburg, where he engaged in farming. Justprior to the rev olution the Indians became so numerous and so warlikethat he sold his f arm and moved to North Carolina. When the strugglefor independence beg an he was loyal to the king, but later becomingconvinced of the justic e of the colonial cause, he joined therevolutionary army, was captured b y the British, and died of swampfever while a prisoner. He had sons: N icodemus, who died of paralysisin Huntingdon county; John, settled in T ennessee, there founding afamily; Hethcote, died in Licking county, Oh io; Humphrey, settled inCromwell township, Huntingdon county, where he d ied; Benjamin, ofwhom further ; James, died in Cassville, Huntingdon c ounty, about1838.

1779 Dublin Twp, Bedford County, PA. His name was on the taxablelist w ithout acreage but he did have one horse and two cattle. Washe planni ng a move there later?

By 1800 nearly all of his family had moved out of MD.

Robinson died of swamp fever.
